Tamil Nadu Sets Record for Having the Highest Number of Green Buildings in the Country

Tamil Nadu has set the record of having the highest number of green building projects in the country. In recent years, the demand for green homes in the key cities of the country has shown increasing trends. The developers are coming up with sophisticated homes with green living facilities for the developers. The government, too, has established favourable norms for the buildings with green living facilities. A report generated by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) reveals that the state leads the country in terms of green buildings. This is a positive development in the real estate sector, as the demand for green homes in the country is on the rise.

According to a statistic, the state has 118 projects, which covers around 4.91 crore Sq.Ft. of green space. The second position is occupied by Maharashtra, which has more than 205 projects. However, the amount of green space in the state is around 3.67 crore. This is a positive indicator for the development of eco-friendly projects in the country. Considering the environmental issues, it is necessary to develop green homes for the residents. The number of green buildings in the major cities in the country is gradually increasing. India is one of the leading countries in terms of developing eco-friendly homes. After Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, the other states with maximum areas of green buildings are Karnataka, Haryana and Delhi. The states have been ranked on the basis of gross square feet (GSF) of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). This is a rating system for the green buildings.
