About Hectare
Hectare was officially recognised in 1795 by the French Revolutionary government. The term was coined from the metric prefix ‘hecto’ that means hundred and ‘are’, the original base unit of area. The term continues to be used in India, European countries and Indonesia.
The term Hectare is denoted by the symbol ‘ha’. It is a commonly used unit of the metric system that is used for measuring plots of land, for land ownership, agriculture, construction, forestry and more. It is used globally in many other countries around the world, such as the United States, Canada, Australia, India, and the European Union.
Hectare is called Manzana in Argentina, Bunder in the Netherlands, Ging qing in China, and Jerib in Iran. It is not accepted in the International System of Units (SI).
